Fundraising
CCRF held its first fundraiser in October, 2005 with featured guest speaker Amy Goodman speaking at the First Congregational Church in Columbus. Amy is the award-winning journalist and host of Democracy Now, a daily international news program originating in New York, broadcasting on 400 stations throughout the U.S.
Our second fundraiser was Friday, Jan 13, 2006 at The Ohio State University Ohio Union Conference Theatre (1739 N. High St.) at 7pm. Our featured speaker was the acclaimed Sonali Kolhatkar (see photo, left pane of home page) who spoke on "The U.S.'s Forgotten War in Afghanistan—Torture, Women's Rights, and Warlords." Sonali is host of the popular Pacifica Radio show, Uprising on KPFK. She is also co-director of the Afghan Women's Mission, a group that works in solidarity with Afghans to help improve health and educational facilities for Afghan refugees in Pakistan.
Friday, March 10, Malalai Joya will speak at OSU. Malalai serves in the Afghan Parliament and she will speak on "Women’s Rights, Warlords and the U.S. Occupation of Afghanistan." This event is at the OSU Mershon Center, 1501 Neil Ave, just south of the OSU campus. The event is at 12 noon. This event is not a CCRF fundraiser but CCRF was involved in the planning process to bring her here.
